I don't understand some words.
For example, what does rank mean?
Why do some users have 5 total posts and only one ranked post?
What does 'Renaming users' role mean?
This is the group of users who rename yourself or who have persimmions to rename other users?

Rank in itself means importance or value of something or somebody within ordered set ("ranking") of those.
On Misago user rank means user's "importance" or position amongst forum's users. This is simply different name for concept other forums know as "users group".
In active posters ranking, users are "ranked" by number of "ranked posts", the posts that matter to user's position in ranking because they were made within certain period of time.
Its role that grants user permission to rename other users using moderation tools.
