I think a facebook style notifications tab would be great so if someone has been quoted they can check the reply for example.

That's not a bad idea! Web Push Notification is pretty nice too.

Misago used to have a feature where you would get notified when somebody mentions you, quotes you, follows you or such:
But the notifications system was dropped when I was rewriting the codebase, because of time constraints. :(
I want them to come back, so it's very likely that notifications/subscriptions update will happen once new frontend and GraphQL API's land, which is next thing on the roadmap after Misago 0.20 gets released.
