I can add new categories in the admin panel and they show up. But they don't show up in the regular categories view nor are they available when adding a new thread. Am I doing something wrong? The settings are the same as the "First Category" Example. I followed the docs on how to setup misago on a digitalocean droplet. I have added SSO with my other django page and that works just fine.

Hi kristian, this sounds like missing permissions issue. By default categories have no permissions set for them, which means no user can access or even see them. You have to assign permissions to them, or copy permissions from "First category". The option for copying permissions is available in "Edit category" form in admin panel.

Coming from other forum software "no permissions for new categories" seems the default everybody does.
